What We Do

Energy@Work provides a full service package to help our clients accomplish their energy-efficiency and sustainability goals. Below are notable services we developed to achieve, verify and sustain results. Services include: Energy Management Action Plan (E-MAP), Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx), Real Time Monitoring (RTM), Energy Audits and many more!

REAL TIME MONITORING

We manage what we measure – RTM is the tool you need to make smart energy management choices.

Real Time Monitoring (RTM) involves monitoring and measuring energy consumption and displaying it in real time, every 5 minutes. This allows you to see the impact of use and price on your bill.

RTM connects directly to your utility meter (Electricity, Gas, Steam, and Chilled water) and allows you to access key information on:

  • Consumption – Access your energy data

  • Price – See how much you are paying and when

  • Cost –View your utility cost in real time

  • Demand - kW 5 minute profile

Anywhere and Anytime!

Introducing RTM reduces the challenges that come with energy management. With the right team and tools, you have the ability to

Continuous monitoring allows you to compare energy consumption year to year and evaluate the impact of previously implemented energy efficiency measures.

RTM is the right tool for the commercial and industrial sector as it connects operations directly to their utility meter's data. RTM's reports delivers the right information to empower operators so they can ensure optimal building performance.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT ACTION PLAN

Energy@Work’s customized Energy Management Action Plan (E-MAP) is a pragmatic and results-oriented approach to energy management. Organizations can design, implement, and continually improve their energy management strategy.

Our Energy Management Action Plan was recognized by both Canada and USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the results that it achieved. The E-MAP has been implemented in over 30 commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities with excellent results.

The Energy Management Action Plan provides a proven approach to deliver and record utility savings and accomplishments with full access to available incentives. Success is achieved by creating a partnership between stakeholders and evolves through regular meetings, tracking results, and implementing projects. Energy@Work secured over 16 million kWh in savings through the 2017-2020 Pay for Performance programs, verified by THES.

Energy@Work’s E-MAP ensures results are achieved through capital, operating, technological, and behavioural opportunities.  Energy Efficiency Measures are evaluated by reviewing utility use against monthly activities with both operation staff and management.

Energy@Work’s E-MAP helps clients improve their triple bottom line:

The A-B-C Systematic Approach

Energy@Work Inc.’s A-B-C is a systematic approach for examining a building in order to gain a greater understanding of its operations, to identify low and no cost Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs), as well as capital intensive measures. A-B-C involves the completion of an ASHRAE Level II Audit , a Building Simulation, and Commissioning - Phase 1.

abc_callOuts.png

The A-B-C enables you to make sense of your building’s operations, energy use, and provides a road map for energy reduction. The benefits of conducting an A-B-C include:

  • Detecting anomalies through energy baselines and benchmarks;

  • Identifying systems and equipment that are not functioning properly

  • Assessing the feasibility of capital and low cost Energy Efficiency Measures

A-B-C is a road map to achieve and sustain long term performance and energy reductions!

MONITORING & TARGETING

M&T is a process used to monitor and reduce utility costs as a continuous improvement cycle. It sits at the heart of a strategic energy management approach that seeks to measure and maintain performance by:

  • Analyzing the historical energy performance of buildings

  • Setting energy reduction targets

  • Controlling current energy performance in real time

  • Projecting future energy budgets

M&T provides energy managers with feedback on operations and energy management project outcomes. A comprehensive M&T plan helps you predict future energy use and trends which enables you to better prepare for budgeting and future consumption. M&T also gives you an early warning of unexpected consumption and enables you to implement corrective actions.

ENERGY AUDITS

An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of a building to identify viable and cost effective energy efficiency measures (EEM) that will reduce the energy use and operating costs of a facility. Energy@Work offers a range of audits from the preliminary or simple audit to a virtual building simulation or advanced general energy audit.

Energy@Work’s energy audit:

  • establishes a utility baseline using monthly utility usage;

  • evaluates energy using equipment;

  • identifies ways to enhance operational efficiency and decrease maintenance costs;

  • resolves occupant comfort issues; and

  • identifies economically feasible EEMs.

BUILDING SIMULATION

A Building Simulation is an advanced and complete audit. It provides a detailed energy model that can be used as an ongoing energy performance diagnostic tool. Extensive attention is given to understanding not only the operating characteristics of energy consuming systems, but also situations that cause load profile variations on both an annual and daily basis. A detailed financial analysis can then be performed for each measure based on implementation cost estimate; site-specific operating cost savings, and the customer's investment criteria.

A Building Simulation is a vital component of Energy@Work’s A-B-C, and contributes to the functionality of Measurement & Verification of Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs).

MEASUREMENT & VERIFICATION

Measurement and Verification (M&V) is an objective process for quantifying energy savings achieved through the implementation of Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs). The process involves measuring and verifying pre - and post-implementation energy use, and adjusting for any salient changes in conditions.

A certified M&V plan provides you with valuable benefits including:

  • Quantified energy savings of energy efficiency measures;

  • Feedback on implemented energy efficiency measures (EEMs);

  • Validation of past projects;

  • Transparency and credible reports on efficiency investments; and

  • Adaptability - M&V allows you to easily adjust to changing facility operating conditions in order to set proper budgets and account for budget variances.

By verifying energy savings, M&V also increases your access to valuable performance-based energy-efficiency incentives! Energy@Work Inc. has been successful in securing over $5 million dollars for our customers in incentive funding for hundreds of energy efficiency projects.

Energy@Work designs custom M&V programs for specific retrofits, or for whole facilities, that are:

  • Accurate;

  • Complete;

  • Conservative;

  • Relevant; and

  • Transparent.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) ENERGY STAR Building Certifications

In 2018, NRCan revealed an annual certification program recognizing Canada's most energy efficient commercial and institutional buildings through ENERGY STAR Building Certification. The globally recognized label highlights Canadian buildings who have qualified in the top 25% of energy performance.

NRCan requires qualified buildings to have successfully undergone a mandatory onsite verification review by a Licensed Professional (LP). Using the required tools, measurements of the indoor environmental conditions are conducted by the LP and are kept on file for two years. NRCan conducts random audit checks and Energy@Work has been successfully audited three times in the past.

In 2018 and 2019, Energy@Work supported a quarter of the commercial offices certified in Ontario with ENERGY STAR Building Certification. Most recently, in 2020, Energy@Work assisted nearly half of the commercial buildings in Ontario certified on NRCan's Building Registry.

Contact us to learn more on how to get your building on NRCan's Building Registry.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES

Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) are identified through Energy Audits or energy team meetings as part of our Energy Master Plan. Energy@Work provides it’s clients with the support necessary to execute desired EEMs. Each identified EEM includes a cost benefit analysis detailing the costs associated with the project, expected energy savings and payback period, as well as any incentives that may help to alleviate costs.
